Beijing D6 - Douyichu, 都一处烧麦馆

Ok, this is one shop that's not entirely gimmickry from travel guides; Douyichu's history goes back to 1738! And they definitely have an award-winning handiwork to boast of - their closely knitted dumplings skin resembling a flowering blossom!

Truly an intangible cultural heritage of the Chinese Nation. From the billboard outside the restaurant, you could read story of the once humble eatery, made famous by the Qianlong emperor overnight.

We were a little early and the restaurant only serves dumplings before 10am. Come after this timing if you wish to try more of their signatures.

三鲜烧麦 (¥36, S$7.20)

This was the minced pork, shrimps and vegetables Siew Mai dumplings we shared. The skin was thinly kneaded and holds a juicy meat filling.

Ric was all praises about the skillfulness of their trade in making the Siew Mai and its steaming process that cooked the dumplings while the top "flower petals" remains soft and thin like a sheet of paper! You should try these dumplings.
