Our Favourite Pasta Place - in the mist of Covid19

Chicken Parmigiana ($11.50)

This has been our favourite haunt for a tranquil time together - at level 1, Gain City Sungei Kadut - Happy Café. Even before this Covid19 outbreak where everybody tries to dine at a secluded spot, we like coming here for a restful, air-conditioned lunch. Take your time over the 2 cashless self-ordering machine. And parking is free.

Food is prepared by a pretty Thai chef. Is affordable and generous in potion. Pictured here were some of our past orders - their aglio olio, grilled chicken and fish burger being our all-time favourite; not forgetting the iced Thai milk tea and dark kopi-o.

Wishing you good health and safety in this Covid19.
We will fight this together. And win.

Sanook Kitchen @ West Mall

Deep-fried Sea Bass with Thai Chili Sauce ($24.90++)
Clear Tom Yum Soup, Seafood ($5.90++)

Having good experience with their fresh seafood, we returned to try their other dishes. It was our first with Thai prawn fish cake; our usual being the fish cake - the cheaper and more common one. Recommend you try the prawn fish cake too, at least once. It's worth it.

After today, we returned a few times. And our usual would be the pineapple rice, clear tom yum soup (one of the best we came across), and prawn cake. The sea bass you see here is a disappointing one time order.

Pineapple Rice ($5.90++)

Homemade Prawn Cake ($11.90++, 4 pcs)

Basil Squid ($9.90++)

Seafood Super Bowl @ Sanook Kitchen West Mall

When you see something like this, don't you'll feel like ordering it? Saw this at Sanook Kitchen. There were only the 2 of us, but we were confident we could finish the ingredients - the seafood.

And we did! Leaving behind huge chuck of the instant noodles, we devoured these fresh succulent seafood! Disappointingly was the salty soup base; not something we could drink up. Thus requested for glasses of hot water to water it down.

Still, the seafood with fresh meat balls was memorable.
This hot stove was great for the wet weather.

Mama Thai, 泰国小厨

Thai Style Fried Fish with Thai Sauce ($23)

At Woodlands 888 Plaza, next to the 7-Eleven store, there's a newly opened Thai Kitchen offering economic lunch set (range of fried rice/ noodle set from $4-5) and zhi char. We went for both. But would honestly recommend only their zhi char. The lunch set just contain too little ingredients in them.

The fried fish and Lala shell is the must order. While we really should return to give their Pineapple fried rice ($4) and Phai Thai ($4) a try!

Thai Style LaLa ($8)
Green Curry Chicken (Set with rice/noodle, $5)

Thai Style Sambal Petai ($8)

Tom Yam Soup (Set with rice/noodle $5)

Yassin Kampung Seafood

CNY Abalone Lo Hei, with Fish Skin Crackers
We have been returning to Yassin for group lunches. Many credits to the easy parking location at Marsling Crescent, cozy dining hall and reasonably tasty food.

Ordering was made easy too. With their A-E set menus, starting from $38 (2-3 pax) to $248 (10-12 pax) set. We are having their 7 courses, D menu today. At $158, for 8-9 pax. The lo hei tossing is ala carte.

Their seafood tom yum soup is our must order on every visit. It is none overly spicy or salted, it's everybody's favorite. Large prawns with oat cereals; flavorsome smoked duck and tender beef with vegetable kalian are some dishes to recommend.

THAI Food @ Woodlands

Pokémon-ing brought us to the 'ulu' north of Singapore which we were not familiar with. A friend recommends this little Thai stall which packs a good crowd during the lunch hours; head chef by a capable Thai lady at 186, Woodlands Industrial Park E5, right behind the Singapore Safety Driving Centre.

We were told that their stir-fried rice and noodles are the sell out here, and so we had.

Green Curry Fried Rice ($4.50)
Fried Drunken Noodle ($4.50)

Serving is large! Never a pinchpenny. Aromatic food fragrance is the first thing to strike our senses, albeit the missing wok-hei. Next, we found ourselves sobbing from the spicy green curry, and seeking respite from the sweetness of the fried kway teow. Feeling upbeat, we added a Thai beef salad to our meal, which only means another nose-blowing episode. It was spicy, but very satisfying.

Surely, i wouldn't hesitate to return for more of their rustic Thai fare - the seafood Tom Yam, Thai omelette minced pork, lemon grass beef or the classic pineapple rice. A good meal, when we weren't rushing after Pokémons.

Pranakorn: Authentic Thai Food

Stir-Fried Spicy Basil Minced Pork & Egg w/Rice ($5.80)

Homemade Fried Pork Cake w/Special Dipping Sauce ($6.80)

Thai Style Stick Noodle with Minced Pork in Tom Yum Soup ($5.80)

The ultra savory Tom Yum soup from Pranakorn had us startled, awake! And Ric waved off any further offering of it. Haha. Yes, the heavier seasoning at Pranakorn seems to be authentic Thai, and not tweaked much to suit the local taste buds. I thought it was a good appetizer, though, as i'm not having much of an appetite lately. And i love chewing on the thin, chewy stick noodle. The dry Tom Yum rendition, without the soup, might be the next thing to order.

The Basil minced pork was also more salted, but acceptable. Very tender minced pork in the Tom Yum soup, and sweet juicy fried minced pork cake, that can be liken to the taste of our local sweet sour pork ribs.

Steamed Thai Rice Cake w/Pandan & Coconut Milk ($3.50)

Now, if i could just delicate this entire post to the steamed Thai rice cake - soft, melt in the mouth kueh kueh, tasting layers of light sweetness and tartness at the same time. It was delish.

A simple street dessert, which often pales in comparison with the popular mango sticky rice and Thai Chendol. But no. We say you order this dessert, and start the weekend on an uplifted spirit.

北胜, Bei Sheng Seafood/ Taste of Thailand

Baby Kai Lan with Oyster Sauce (S, $5)

Thai Deep Fried Fish Delight (M, $17)

Some 20 years ago, a branch outlet of Bei Sheng Seafood, named 'Taste of Thailand' operates a food stall from the basement food court of the Sembawang Shopping Centre. Business was really brisk then, and it became famous islandwide.

On the other hand, Bei Sheng Seafood never moved out of Yishun. It is still a comfortable air-conditioned cze char place, offering some of their dishes at lower than kopitiam's prices! Food wasn't eye popping great, nor authentic Thai, but it was decent - and there is no GST or service charges here.

A very friendly place, both on service and on your pocket.

Chicken with Honey Sauce (S, $8)

Pineapple Fried Rice (M, $5)

Nakhon Kitchen Pasir Panjang

Nakhon Kitchen, probably the most value for money Thai food we have in Singapore. So it explains the crazy long queue we saw at their main branch in Kovan! Even at all their branches. That clearly puts us off our visit to the cafe till today. Merry Christmas to you!

Our quiet evening was roused by the burning and biting from the Thai salad and soup! Seeking respite, we relished on the sweet pineapple rice and mildness of the fresh squids, scooping up spoonful of the basil favored gravy. Lovingly, we shared the plate of warm glutinous rice dessert.

Our Thai food meal in a long time and we do enjoy ourselves; making a mental note not to repeat the chicken dish.

Stir-Fried Squid w/ Hot Basil Leaves ($10)

Thai Mango Salad ($5)

Seafood Tom Yam Soup, Clear Base ($6)

Mookata Steamboat at Rattana Thai

Was intriguing to start our first Thai Mookata BBQ steamboat at Rattana Thai after getting a

Free Flow Authentic Tom Yam Soup
Green vegetables Platter: Cai Sim, Cabbage, Kangkong.
2 Fresh Eggs
Vermicelli / Glass Noodles
Soft Egg Tofu

Corn
Straw Golden Mushrooms
Carrots
Tomato

Inclusive Ala carte dishes:
Mango Salad
Deep Fried Calamari
Top Shell with Rattana seasoning

Ala Carte: Mango Salad, Deep Fried Calamari and Top Shell with Rattana seasoning

We enjoyed cooking the fresh ingredient in their Tom Yum Soup base, but towards the end of the meal, everything start tasting the same, and gets salty. On the hindsight, we should have just request for a top-up of plain hot water for the soup base to water things down.

Quite wonderfully, the 3 ala carte appetizers that came free with our deal actually taste great - the Mango salad and the Top Shell. It got us coveting - that their ala carte kitchen would serve us better than an all Tom Yam soup steamboat.

Now, camera off. As we start our steamboat with a rub of oil with a fat lemongrass stem; instead of pork lard!
