Our Favourite Pasta Place - in the mist of Covid19

Chicken Parmigiana ($11.50)

This has been our favourite haunt for a tranquil time together - at level 1, Gain City Sungei Kadut - Happy Café. Even before this Covid19 outbreak where everybody tries to dine at a secluded spot, we like coming here for a restful, air-conditioned lunch. Take your time over the 2 cashless self-ordering machine. And parking is free.

Food is prepared by a pretty Thai chef. Is affordable and generous in potion. Pictured here were some of our past orders - their aglio olio, grilled chicken and fish burger being our all-time favourite; not forgetting the iced Thai milk tea and dark kopi-o.

Wishing you good health and safety in this Covid19.
We will fight this together. And win.

The French Table. Again.

Chicken and Shiitake Stroganoff Served With A Mash ($9.90++ Set)

Stolen times are perhaps most treasured.

This is another afternoon off for quiet set lunches at The French Table. If you are here, do remember that their mash is most delectable - fine and creamy. The simplest done at their best. I am feeling all romantic.

All weekday lunch sets are complete with soup of the day and a drink.

The French Table - Good Set Lunches

Braised Pork Belly with Mash and Sauteed Vegetables

Gone were the days of cheap and good set lunches, and so we thought. It was then at The French Table that we chanced upon the $9.90++ deal; never mind they were tucked in a secluded corner of the bustling Punggol Waterway Point. We enjoy quiet lunches in their dark cozy setting.

We prayed hard that the braised pork belly doesn't turn out to be what our Chinese family does at home. And luckily, it doesn't. It tasted different, it tasted French. We love the melt-in-the-mouth. And the mashed potato is rich and smooth.

Ladies would love their tangy tomato sauce coating the linguine! And the chicken cutlet piece hammered flat and deep fried crisp was so unlike our usual Western entree. It balances out the vinegary bite of the tomato sauce, or even better on its own with a light dip into the nutty onion dressing. The smoked mushrooms too, were memorable.

Crispy Chicken Cutlet with Linguine in Tomato Sauce

Complimentary Vegetable Soup of the Day, and Iced Peach Tea/ or Iced Ocha

Impressed, we came back quickly on the second week. But the menu changes weekly and our old favorites were gone, so we laid our hands on their thin crust pizza and a staple of tagliatelle.

Topped up for their coffee which was served with a helping of warm milk! And dessert of freshly fried banana fritters with the Vanilla ice-cream sitting on crushed pistachio nuts! The bananas were sweet golden ripe.

Yes, it's the little details that delights.

Beef Ragout Pizza (9 inch)

Sauteed Chicken with Tagliatelle in Red Wine Thai Chili Sauce

Optional Top-up of $3++: Banana Fritters with Vanilla Ice Cream Dessert

Optional Top-up of $1++: Coffee in replacement of Iced Drinks

Crosta Pizza Delivery @ Crawford Lane

Latine Pizza, fresh Rucola packed separately ($24.20)

Ric returns to the waiting car as i catches strong whiff of Crosta Pizza's wood fired cooking, quite unmistakably. It smells deliciously wonderful!

Albeit the miserly seafood portion on their Capri (mixed seafood) pizza, ingredients used were fresh and rather top notch. I enjoyed their Latine piled with gorgonzola blue cheese and bitter crunchy rucola rocket.

That being said, we would patronize again when they are having a 50% deal. For it seems inappropriate for takeaways to charge restaurant prices? Even when they are very good takeaway pizza - never our regular P-huts or Canadian.

Capricciosa Pasta & Pizza

Seafood Linguine ($14.90++)

Smoked Salmon Pizza, personal 9" ($9.90++)

How much are you willing to fork out for the Italian foods above?

Today, we found Capricciosa at J-cube who serves some tasty Italian recipe, warm from their open kitchen. The pasta was doused in thick cream sauce, lots of seafood (mussels, clams, calamari) while the fresh dough pizza drips healthy olive oil. It's pretty scrumptious.

Fettuccine with Eggplant & Streaky Beef ($12.90++)

How about their fresh handmade pasta that they boasted, "One bite and you'll know the difference, the texture and taste is out of this world!" Well... it has the look of thick Mee Pok noodles and tasted similar but more doughy than the China handmade Ban Mian. One try of this is just enough.

These were from their weekday set lunch selections that are priced from $5.90 to $14.90, include 1 day soup. We are having an early dinner, and if you could make your order before 5pm; like us, you enjoy the lunch deal for dinner too.

Castel Cafe

Pescatora (Seafood) Pizza ($8)

If you wish to experience how it's like to be second class citizens, you should probably come to Castel Pizza with discount voucher from Deal.com. I was embarrassed in front of my guests when the waitress and kitchen displayed obvious lukewarm attitude to claimers of the vouchers...

But, well, it is no fault of the pizza. Yay, i was brought over by this delicious piece of kneaded flour topped with sea-freshness. We like that the seafood was cleverly treated with light Italian herbs and spices before using it on the pizza. Before today, it had never occurred to us that seafood goes amazingly well on a pizza.

Squid Ink Pasta ($8)

Our first serve up was actually this squid ink pasta that's equally flavorsome; but don't you find it tad too soupy!?

Fremantle Seafood Market

 Battered Cod Fish in Burrito wrap

I didn't know about full priced dinner, but keep your fingers crossed when you have set lunches at the  Fremantle Seafood Market; yes, named after Perth's famed Fremantle Harbour Port. We wished it was an accident that they served out stale, not so fresh seafood.

We were on their weekday $15 nett set lunch that include 1 main, a soup of the day/ or homemade dessert.

Spaghetti Vongole with Littleneck Clams

While the seafood isn't its freshest - both the ones in the soup, the spaghetti and the cod fish; the battered cod fish is well executed, so is the Spaghetti Vongole with al dente pasta and a flavorsome soupy sauce. Bad ingredients sure wasted a good cook.

And we were just glad to get away without a stomach upset.

Soup of the Day: Clam Chowder

Dessert: Creme Brulee

Breeks 1-for-1 Lunch

Cajun Snapper ($15.90++)

Settled for a comfortable lunch at Breeks as they are having a 1 for 1 promotion for 3 of their main courses. We skipped the Ribeye steak ($24.90++) and had the other 2 selection.

The Snapper fish was good and appetizing, served with nicely roasted skin-on potatoes and side salad. Carbonara tasted quite plain with a less than al dente Linguini.

7-Inch Square Pizza

Some cheap pizza for the weekend! Packing away from Canteen 1 of the NTU campus, the 7" Square Pizza is retailed at a discount of $1 for the undergrads here, at just $3.90. The canteen is open to public.

And this is our order with lots of cheese! Yes!

Tom Yum Pizza (Tom Yum Paste, Prawns, Squid Rings, Mozzarella Cheese) $3.90

Tom Yum is a tasty choice to go with seafood. It is yummy.

Peppers Pork Pizza (Mayonnaise Garlic Sauce, Pork Belly, Capsicum, Mozzarella Cheese) $3.90

And you surely must try some semi-fatty pork belly with cheese; they are such surprisingly good combination! With more generous toppings, these pizzas would be nearer perfect.

Mad for Garlic; Mad for Pasta

Garlic Snowing Pizza ($19.90++)
Mad for Garlic Special Sweet Garlic Pizza topped with Shrimp and Pineapple Dice.

This was what we missed out during our last visit to Mad for Garlic - the Garlic Snowing Pizza. Friends had strongly recommended this sweet tasting pizza, but besides finding it really aromatic when served up, there wasn't much surprises.

Ingredients used were ordinarily simple.

Vongole Mare Pasta ($19.90++)
Traditional Pasta with Fresh Clam in White Wine Sauce.

The surprises came in the form of their soupy pasta! Yes, soupy pasta, you heard right. The broth was full flavored and slightly spicy; totally enjoyed it.

And if you like seafood, this light pasta with fresh squids, prawns, clams and baby octopus will be worthy of your pleasure.

Mad for Garlic

Embraced by soothing chilled air and darkened interior, we imagined having descended into the Dracula's dungeon - Mad for Garlic had just opened an Italian Wine Bistro at the Clarke Quay where we enjoyed the warmth and intimacy of the classy decor.

Ice Lemon Tea

Alas, it's an eerie thought that Lord Dracula had grown immune to Garlic. Haha... And the food was delicious. Cheers!

Meat Lover's Creamy Pizza ($19.90++)
Creamy Pizza topped with Sausage, Ham, Bacon, Spicy Black Pepper in Sweet White Sauce.

Gorgonzola Cream Pasta ($19.90++)
Creamy Potato Gorgonzola Cheese Pasta served with Scallop and Grilled King Oyster Mushroom.

Manhattan MegaSaver Lunch

Clear Seafood Broth

Looking for a value lunch deal? This February and March, the Manhattan Fish Market is having a promotion with several lunch sets at $7.90++ and $9.90++ that includes a day soup and soft drink! If you beat the clock and placed your order before 12pm, the $9.90 set would be charge at only $7.90; and that's what we did ;)

A crab claw, scrimp and squids in my seafood broth - delightful start of a meal.

Spaghetti in the Sea ($15.90++)

Fiery Cherry Snapper with Mussels ($13.90++)

I want my pasta while the man prefers his grilled Snapper with Garlic herb rice - it doesn't matter which menu you have, their kitchen is pretty reliable so far.

Bon appetit!

Pasta Dishes at Swensens

Salmon and Mushroom Pasta ($14.90++)

Swensen's restaurant 1-for-1 promotion is back! Yippie!

It was rare that we both decide to have pasta. But don't you find girls especially love pasta dishes? And i'm really craving for some that swims in milky cream sauce... so much that i overlooked my order which comes with smoked salmon.

I don like salty tasting smoked salmon but these were nice and tasted just like cooked than smoked.

Black Pepper Seafood Pasta ($14.90++)

If your girlfriend prefers something fiery, get her this black pepper pasta. It really hit the spot and had fresh seafood ingredients of fish fillet, clams and crab sticks.

With a couple of thick mushroom slices throw in, we like this plate.

Beijing D4 - Dinner at Saizeriya

Boy! Finally back to Beijing, we were hungry, tired and thirsty after the morning hike and long journey.

Seek out Saizeriya for its affordable house wine but found that they have taken it out of their menu? So we'll just have Japanese beer instead ;) I specifically wanted their Spaghetti and Escargot; leaving Ric to round up the rest of our order.

Chilled Asahi Beer, 630ml (¥9, S$1.80)

Garlic Escargots (¥15, S$3)

Squid Ink Spaghetti (¥12, S$2.40)

Pineapple & Bacon Pizza (¥11, S$2.20)

Satisfied after the meal, we went to the next door supermarket stocking up on potato chips, beer, chocolates, instant noodles, Yakult drinks and fresh fruits for our prolonged hotel stay!

It was a free & easy holiday after all! Yeah!
