Chicken Up

Ginseng Chicken Soup ($30++)

Long time since our last Korean ginseng chicken soup from a good restaurant along Tanjong Pagar. But looking forward to relish the heartwarming broth, this pot from Chicken up left much to be desired and is easily forgettable.

Made famous by their Korean fried chicken, this is one dish you should not miss.

All is not lost when our meal is 50% discounted by Eatigo reservations. Go explore.

食客, Ssikkek Korean BBQ

Seasoned Beef, Pork Belly

Spicy Chicken, Seasoned Soy Sauce Pork, Seasoned Soy Sauce Chicken

This place is like a Lion den. Oh, and i'm seeing some of you wagging that tail!

At Ssikkek Korean BBQ, you pay just $14++ for their buffet lunch to feed the lion appetite. The package includes a Budae-jjigae (Korean Army Base Stew Pot!), a fountain of free flow soft drinks and sweet oranges for dessert.

Of course, we went straight for the BBQ meat! Jal meokkesseumnida!

Quite an authentic Korean BBQ house that offers Korean dipping sauce, side dishes of Kimchi, Korean rice cake, fried chicken wings, fried vermicelli on its menu. Others include egg sandwiches, sweet sour pork and sautéed vegetable.

I couldn't resist the delicious looking cooked food, and enjoyed wrapping the BBQ with Kimchi and crunchy lettuce. Service staffs are friendly and prompt to change the hotplate for us, several times. Very soon, we were bloated.

No doubt, such buffet kept you off meat for the next few days. I was soon reminiscing the aroma of the BBQ meat.

Side Dishes Table - Kimchi, Salad, Raw Onions, Garlic, Radish, Beansprouts, Brinjal, Hot Dog, Crab Stick.

Arirang Korean Restaurant

Chicken Ginseng Soup, Samgyetang ($20) + Rice ($3)

Korean cuisine is something i would craved for after an absence, so we bought a Groupon for the Arirang Korean Restaurant, thinking it shouldn't get too bad right?

And we were quite safe.

6 complementary side dishes of Banchan -
Anchovies, Cucumbers, Potatoes, Sweet Black Beans, Kimchi, Hot Green Chili.

Enjoyed the simple dishes of unlimited Banchan and hot Ginseng soup, albeit the missing glutinous rice which we considered mandatory in a Samgyetang.

Our first try of Korean dumplings made up of chives, tofu, Korean vermicelli and minced pork fillings were impressive. Overall food standard aren't stunning, but fairly comfortable for a repeat.

Korean Fried Chicken at Seoul Xpress

2 pcs Fat Chicks Meat Meal, Spicy ($7.90)

We have never tasted Korean fried chicken, but if these at Seoul Xpress are anything to come by, i don't think we enjoyed it - the taste is heavy and way too salty for us.

We also didn't appreciate the thick flour that coated the chicks, and getting moisten with the savory bean sauce. Am quite desperately begging for some rice to go with this. Much as i hate wasting food, i couldn't finish the meal. The fries was great though.

Now, i miss the KFC.

Market O Real Brownie

Market O Real Brownie, 80g (4,800 won, S$5.28)

Friend was contracted to work in Korea and bought this brownie for us on her visit back. The brownie is bitterly chocolatey with bit of chocolate chips between bites. It is rather nice.

Of course you can't compare it with warm brownies obtain fresh from good bakeries but this is definitely a convenient and tasty choice to accompany that cup of coffee when you do not want to travel out. A comfort for an untimely cocoa craving.

Some Korea supermarket brought in the stock; we saw many boxes at Shine Korea retailing at $4.90.

Mad for Garlic; Mad for Pasta

Garlic Snowing Pizza ($19.90++)
Mad for Garlic Special Sweet Garlic Pizza topped with Shrimp and Pineapple Dice.

This was what we missed out during our last visit to Mad for Garlic - the Garlic Snowing Pizza. Friends had strongly recommended this sweet tasting pizza, but besides finding it really aromatic when served up, there wasn't much surprises.

Ingredients used were ordinarily simple.

Vongole Mare Pasta ($19.90++)
Traditional Pasta with Fresh Clam in White Wine Sauce.

The surprises came in the form of their soupy pasta! Yes, soupy pasta, you heard right. The broth was full flavored and slightly spicy; totally enjoyed it.

And if you like seafood, this light pasta with fresh squids, prawns, clams and baby octopus will be worthy of your pleasure.

Kim's Family Restaurant

The Kim's Family Korean Restaurant (17 Lorong Kilat) is widely famed as the most economical and popular place for decent Korean Food in Singapore with their spread of 10-12 complimentary "side dishes"!

Are we missing out any others?

I would happily dug into these with an order of their Rice ($2+).

(Clockwise) Anchovy, Kimchi, Vegetable Pancake and Steam Fish.

You don't find this spread of serving even in high end Korean Restaurant. And they all taste flavorfully good...!

Bulgogi-Jeongshic, Lunch Special BBQ Beef set ($8+)

Just a conventional fare of stir-fried Beef slices on hot plate but in good hefty portion for one pax.

Black Bean Paste Noodle ($10+)

Saw this dish being consumed ever so often in the many Korean Drama and had always wanted to try it. The noodle was of nice texture albeit the less than expected thinned Black Bean sauce.

Footage of Kim's Family in "Real Deal For A Good Deal".

And what comes after you asked for your bill would be (again, on-the-house) 1 thick slice of Watermelon and a little cup of their Plum Juice... Mmmm. Pleasant.

NTU - Canteen 13

One of the food stall featured on TV - Campus Yummy was this Korean Food stall in Canteen 13, and they do command the most patrons here.

We were finally here today!

Dolsot Bibimbap ($4.50)

Bibimbap is one of the most representative items of Korean cuisine. The hot stone bowl we ordered was the beef version.

The vegetables placed in adjacent colors complement each other and really offers visual appeal that whets our appetite. We stirred the ingredients together with red gochujang hot pepper sauce thoroughly just before eating.

The stone bowl so hot that the raw egg cooked by itself as we stirred. And the crust of scorched rice at the bottom of the hot stone bowl is golden brown and crispy to eat.

BBQ Beef Set ($4.50)

Ric choice of the popular BBQ Beef set over their Pork and Chicken. A rather simple taste dish that comes with generous serving of beef with cabbages and rice vermicelli.

We had much preferred the Bibimbap given its variety of taste and heated stone bowl that kept our food warm till our very last mouthful. We'll be back.
