Swensens with Mom

I applauded Swensen's ability to maintain food and service standard in every of their numerous branches! 1st time at their IMM outlet today, and things had been going fine too :)

Deciding on their Fish & Chips for Mom. And other than the Beef Lasagna i had with Ric previously, we are having the Seafood Lasagna today.

Seafood Lasagna ($13.90++)

Regular Shrimps and Crabsticks between the layers of Pasta, accompanied with generous splashes of creamy Spinach sauce and golden fried Potato sticks.

Mom enjoys her first Lasagna.

Fish & Chips ($13.90++)

Golden-fried fillet of Fish and U.S. Fries served hot from the fryer, chilled refreshing Coleslaw as side.

Congratulations, Swensens!
You have delivered!
And we're going to miss your 1-for-1 Mains promotion when it's gone.

Good Morning Nanyang!

Just as Mom forewarn, Heng Kee's Curry Noodle certainly had me dehydrated miserably. Desperately needing a Coffee to my rescue.

The adjacent 'Morning Nanyang Coffee' in Chinatown Point is a saver.

Coffee C ($1.30), Coffee Black ($1.10), Ciabatti Bread ($2.20)

8 months had passed since we were here the last time, and food standard had been good and consistent so far!

But securing a table at this well-liked cozy establishment is a challenge.

Crisp toasted Ciabatti Bread spread on with thick layer of warmly melted Kaya & Butter.

Mmmm... their Signature.

Heng Kee Curry Noodle

Being a little early today, i could afford to join the 10 man queue at Hong Lim's Heng Kee (#01-1271), the most advocated Curry Chicken Noodle stall in Singapore!?

Curry Chicken Noodle ($4)

A few sips of its 'powerful' gravy and Mom surrendered. "You're gotten thirst after this bowl..." She warned.

Sure enough, she was right.

And we couldn't get across the constant popularity this stall enjoys throughout the year; being featured in Singapore Tour Guide Books was their other bonus.

Their minimum $4 serving portion would not do for an average male. And for juicer Chicken meat, i would vote for the nearby PingPing stall (level 2) anytime.

Modesto's Italian

Promptly ushered to our reserved table, chairs pull out; laying of napkins on our laps once we are seated. Simple orders for their Mad Monday Promotion ($9.95++ for selected Classic Pasta & Mini Pizza) were taken attentively and warm water with Lemon slice served swiftly.

A waitress etiquette no lacking in Modesto's Restaurant Vivo.

Complimentary warmly toasted Focaccia bread with dipping Olive Oil & Vinegar for my hunger pangs. Could i ask for a refill?

Wood-Fired Pizza - Mini Mediterranea ($16.50++)

Mediterranea styled in Tomato, Cheese, Black Kalamata, Olives, Garlic and Oregano. A Wood-Fired tasting Pizza no doubt! A Mini Pizza that's by no means mini; it's at least a 10 inches.

I do love its Pizza that's an in-between of paper-thin crust from Waraku and customary thick crust from Pizza Hut.

Classic Pasta - Carbonara ($20++)

Ever a Classic, the Carbonara Spaghetti with Pork Bacon, Egg Yolk and Parmesan Cheese in Cream sauce. Pity about not seeing the "yellow sun rise" here; the Egg Yolk :(

Pasta de Waraku could have done the Carbonara as good if not better, but at a smaller price tag.

标记,Piew Kee Cuttlefish

If you are in the vicinity of Blk 11 North Bridge Road Market and had a craving for Cuttlefish, turn in to its stall #01-91.

None comparable to Meng Kee Satay Bee Hoon or Mei Qi Kangkong Cuttlefish at the East Coast Park Food Centre but it does curb the craving a little :)

Satay Bee Hoon ($3)

Kangkong Cuttlefish ($3)

This stall also had Satay that's sold for 30 cents per stick only! But we much prefer the ones here.

Bakerzin - 50% Off Desserts!

Yes! Themed the sweetest deal ever at Bakerzin, their monthly promotion for August takes 50% off their Classic Desserts.

Coupe Cheesecake ($9.80++)

A Fruit Tart of sort, assembled with 3 scoopfuls of rich Cheese Ice cream topped with Strawberry and Raspberry wedges.

No doubt a dessert that would make very girl beams with delight, but certainly not me - this sourish tasting Dessert a definite no no.

Bailey's Irish Cream Souffle ($8.80++)

I love my Souffle!

This is such a perfect after-meal dessert; you could equate it as a comforting Caffeine experience.

Was taught by the server to make a hole on the cake and pour the Espresso Vanilla Sauce within. The ultra light and eggy Puff soaks up the Espresso - and all was gone in 60 sec.

I love this little Caffeine bitterness in my dessert.
And experiencing all new things with Ric - Priceless...

Cambridge Hong Kong Roast Pork

Pek Kio Food Centre, Blk 41A Cambridge Road is one of our favourite makan place. Devoid of weekend crowds, it's the perfect place for quiet dining without the hubbub.

Our lunch at #01-18, Hong Kong Roast Pork.

And when the Signboard mentions 'Roast Pork', they say it for a reason - you gotten order the highlighted! It's deadly yummy!

Crispy, succulent, everything...

Boy, were we surprised to see a roasted Duck Drumstick for our 2 pax meat platter set!

Mix Meat Platter for 2 pax (Roast Duck & Roast Pork) with Rice ($9)

Our meal comes with their complimentary Old Cucumber Soup with chunks of Cucumbers. And aromatic Braised Sauce on Rice... to die for.

Alternatively, you may have their home-cook Soup of Lotus Roots, Old Cucumber, Carrot, Watercress or Salted Vegetable Pork Rib at a reasonable price of $2 only!

I now understand why the stall always had a lunch hour queue...

Jasen Dessert Hut, 甜品屋

Jasen at the newly re-opened Mei Ling Market & Food Centre (159 Mei Chin Rd)

Black Glutinous Rice ($1.20)

Don't you just love Black Glutinous Rice dessert as you bite into their aromatic husk that swims in rich Coconut Milk!

Mmmm...

This stall was worth our special mention in its real economic pricing of $1.20 for a number of its tasty traditional desserts like the Tou Suan, Green Bean Soup, Red Bean Soup, Sweet Potato Soup and White Fungus Red Dates Soup.

None tasted so far were overly sweetened.
It's fast becoming one of our favourite dessert haunt :)

Phoenix Garden Carrot Cake

Located diagonally across Jasen Dessert Hut in Mei Ling Food Centre, a fried Carrot Cake stall that operates since 1977 and boasted of home-made rice cake for their kueh. Wow!

Carrot Cake, White ($1.50)

Kueh that's fried with a little burn and crisp yet staying soft on the inside; this cook had done a good job with his wok.

Pretty oily but well worth the calories :)
Do come early, they closed by 2pm.

Suanthai A-La-Carte Buffet

Magnetized by the $13.90++ budget Buffet spread offered by Suanthai Restaurant, we decide to lunch at their Liang Court basement outlet.

Let's find out for ourselves is the meal worth it, or is it just a gimmick?

Tom Yam Soup with Chicken ***

Green Mango Salad *****

Deep Fried Beancurb with Thai Sauce ***

Appetizers also consists of Pomelo Salad, Thai Spring Roll and Thai Fish Cake. Do give the Spring Roll a miss and go for the Thai Fish Cake instead.

Beef with Basil Leaves *****

Thai Style Chicken Satay ***** (limit to 1 time order only)

Chicken Wrapped in Pandan Leaves ***** (limit to 1 time order only)

The 2 items that's limited to 1 time order were evidently good. Alas, servings were kept to a miserable 1 piece per pax :(

Beef Stir Fried with Cashew Nuts ***

The Beef slices were toughly over cooked but i enjoyed the dish as it reminds me of my favourite Sweet & Sour Pork cooking.

Buffet Dessert Table of Mixed Fruits.

Thai Red Ruby ***

Tapioca with Coconut Milk **

Frustrations are in for you folks who love Thai Tapioca dessert as it was stiffly under-cooked. The milky Red Ruby and sweet ripe fresh Fruits platters though make up for the discontentment.

This buffet is an overall hit with its particularly low pricing of satisfactory Thai cooking. Paying a price of 3 course set lunch for a 22 dishes buffet - the thought is more than flattering.

Misses in the buffet would be tasting dishes made up of substandard Fish Fillet and dull tasting Chicken pieces. But it's especially easy to pick on food once you are bloated... so forgive me pls :)

Cocktail - Bulldog

We were fast finishing our bottle of Gin, and there's still few Cocktail i wish to try before switching over to Vodka mixes. Here's one with freshly squeezed Orange juice!

Ingredients:
44ml Gin
Orange Juice
Ginger Ale

Combine first 2 ingredients in a glass over 3/4 cup of ice.
Top off with Ginger Ale.

As with all connoct, it can be made stronger (more Gin) or made weaker (more Orange juice) without affecting much of its taste. Cheers!

Gin tastes superb with Citric juices!

顺发 - $2 Prawn Noodle

Beside our favourite Ke Shuan Xing Carrot Cake stall at North Bridge Food Centre is this Prawn Noodle stall that serves out real big bowl of noodle at $2 only.

Prawn Noodle, dry ($2)

Yummylicious... and filling!
With all fresh ingredients used!

A humble stall with very friendly service that's certainly worth your support. They are one of our favourite $2 Prawn Mee stall other than Niu Ji at Bedok South.

甜,Dessert Hut

Were with mom and Ric at the Dessert Hut after our lunch at Hong Lim Food Market.

This ever popular after-lunch hideout was always packed and they have since expanded their operation, taking up an opposite stall space.

Black Glutinous Rice ($1.50) & Yam Cream with Gingko ($2.80)

Quality dessert to boost of in comfort air-conditioned. What better place to chill out after sweating out at lunch! Maybe i've aged; beginning to enjoy hot dessert more than the cold ones ;)

Sotong Ball Seafood Soup!

I saw 2 ladies having this impressive bowlful some time back at Hong Lim Market and promised myself to have it soon!

Here i am today... puffing and sweating with Ric over 2 bowlful of Sotong Ball Seafood Soup from 东方红墨鱼丸杂锦汤, Dong Fang Hong Sotong Ball Seafood Soup (01-116).

伊麵, Ee Noodle Soup ($3.50)

I was totally won over, just by 1st look! All handmade balls of pork, fish and squid! Bouncily meaty and bursting with sweet flavors in clear light soup!

粿条, Kway Teow Soup ($3.50)

Ric is having their kway teow soup; see how wide is their kway teow! It offers such great bite!

The stall is located at level 1, the back lane, facing the Wet Market.
Search and you shall find.
Slurp, slurp...

Covent Garden Prawn Noodle

It's the only stall with a queue here (self-service) at Havelock Cooked Food Centre (#01-24), you wouldn't miss it.

Prawn Mee, Soup ($2)

Prawn Mee, dry ($2)

The portion is small for a $2 bowl but filling enough for my Breakfast appetite :) We do find its dry version much flavorful than its soupy one.

Some were ordering for their $3 version with Pig's tail!
You like Pig's tail?

Simple eat.

Changing Appetites!

We were at the Marina Square Mall for lunch. Seeing the snaking queue outside Swensen, we opted to give Changing Appetites (next door) a try.

They've got pretty interesting yet economical $8.90 nett Daily Set Lunches (free flow Soft Drinks); 2 different sets option available daily from Monday to Saturday.

So, we ordered 1 each for tasting variety :)

These super creamy Day Soup already raises our expectation for our Mains.

BBQ Chicken & Cheese Quesadillas & Fries.

Tasteful Char Siew-like Chicken with Tomato and BBQ sauce is ever appetizing in a wrap! Not mentioning the refreshing Coleslaw and hot crisp Fries aside.

Seafood Basket (Calamari, Prawns, Fish & Chips).

All deep fried and greasy - it was most enjoyable to share this platter.

Chocolate Ice-cream with Peach.

A really pleasant dining experience here at Changing Appetites.

The little changes from the usual Set Lunch offerings of Pasta and Chicken Chop is what we definitely welcome and hope to see in more Cafes.

Orchard Central

Oh!

What Big pair of Boots!?

Who owns it?

It's Hers!

I love this piece of Arts!

Of the several new shopping malls that open its door, we were at the Orchard Central this morning.

The Mall is unique in its fusion of Art and Design into its structure and space; the long narrow Atrium at Level 1 is cosily decorated like a Hotel lobby, dimly lighted with comfy Sofa.

Tastefully selected art pieces of Sculptures and water features of fountain lined the atrium. I was feeling totally at home here :)

With 8 levels of Food and Fashion outlets, i certainly promises this Mall a repeat thorough visit. Hopefully with Mom for the Fruit Tart of Fruit Paradise at Level 5.

Be looking forward to its roof-top dining at level 12 when it gets ready, later this year.

Batam Texas Chicken

Having an hour of shopping time in Mathahari Shopping Mall, we were in search of 'feeding' ourselves before heading back home, Singapore.

And, what's more convenient and reliable than Fast Food?

2 Piece Chicken Set with Soft drink (Rp25909; S$3.76)+

These meaty Chicken pieces were impressive! Crunchy on the outside, juicy on the inside.

Need i say more? Certainly not to mention KFC who is just next door.

Rendang Chicken (Rp12727; S$1.85)+

The Rendang was equally juicy and was less spicy than it actually looks.

The fragrant Rice that comes with both sets was worth a special mention, it exude a light tinge of Spice; bet you wouldn't find another Fast Food Chain that has this in Singapore!

Batam Cracker Snacks!

Well, while the group of guys alighted for some massages at Indo Thai Massage near Mathahari Shopping Mall, we set our eyes on this little cart of Keropok goodies!

All looking so fresh!
It's unlike those packages we usually see in the Supermart!

They have the Spicy Melinjo, Banana, Spicy Tapioca, Cheese Tapioca and Plain Tapioca Chips! (from left to right)

We got 1 pack (500g) of these Cheese Tapioca Chips,

2 packs of these Spicy Melinjo Chips (Bitter Cracker).

And i had bargained down the price to Rp20,000 (S$3) for 500 grams pack with the super friendly seller.

Free food sampling for all!
You couldn't stop at 1 and would definitely haul home a 500 grams bag :)
