Jacob's Cafe

It was finally pouring, after a week of unbearable drought as we arrive at Jacob's Cafe in quiet Changi Village.

Prices are on a higher side here if you compare them with your normal set lunches you can get at about $10; a Western main course here sets you back at about $20. But i trust their quality of food to be in line with their pricing too.

However, we decide on their famed Stew set that comes with a cuppa.

Hainanese Mutton Stew ($10.20)

I was risking with this order of Mutton Stew as i don't really fancy mutton that much. But the one here was so good that i soon become accustomed to its taste and was enjoying my meal.

The chilling chilli mix for the mutton adds fragance rather than spiciness to the dish, Yummy.

Hungarian Beef Goulash ($14.90)

Their popular signature dish of the Hungarian Goulash was an in-between of a stew and thick soup. It was a heavy meal of potato, carrots and beef chunks that was enough to form a beef steak size, all in mildly spiced tomato-based thick broth.

Warmly toasted baguette served along side makes this a truly detectable meal indeed.

Apple Crumble ($4.90)

We had meant to order their special Pecan Pie but as it were not available today we switched to the Apple Crumble of British origin. We waited for the pie that was served crisply hot yet moist with lightly sweetened stewed apple infill.

A hearty warm dessert, with our bitter cups of coffee round up our flavorsome meal as the sky cleared for the afternoon.

Dining experience here is great, it gave me a totally different feel; unlike dining in our common cafe. The warm, friendly service here and their unique food makes one feel you are dining in some small Europe town.

This place draws you in magically - a charmer in its own way.
