Lunch @ Sakuraya Fish Mart (West Coast)

Been a long time, Sakuraya Fish Mart.

They used to be a small outlet offering raw seafood; now they are a full fledged restaurant for some nice Japanese home cooking. Nothing spectacular, but definitely soul food for me.

I recommend their value-for-money lunch menu; and you come decide if my claim is right.

Wasabi Flavoured Octopas ($3)

Chawamushi

Swordfish Sashimi, market price

Half Udon (part of $13 lunch set), Salt-grilled Squid ($11)

California Maki (part of $13 lunch set)

d' Good Cafe - Singapore Coffee Musuem @ Jewel

Hainanese Chicken Roulade & Risotto Balls (19.50++)

Ling Cod Fish & Chips ($22++)

Cappuccino ($5.50++)

I was preoccupied with online games; yet blessed with R who sought out new places for us to visit. The Jewel is his plan for our date today. And the newly opened d' Good Café is having a 1-for-1 lunch promotion.

You tasted sincerity in their food here, it was as good as the price you would pay, even in full. The juicy chicken roulade is accompanied by a luxurious foie gras. The Ling cod fish was firm and sweet. Yes, we enjoyed our steak.

Of course you would end your meal here with a cup of their home roasted bean coffee. It is the boss's passion. Alas, we were too full for their signature cake - the little Nyonya.

Grilled Beef (Choice of Ribeye/ Tenderloin, $30++ each)

Sanook Kitchen @ West Mall

Deep-fried Sea Bass with Thai Chili Sauce ($24.90++)
Clear Tom Yum Soup, Seafood ($5.90++)

Having good experience with their fresh seafood, we returned to try their other dishes. It was our first with Thai prawn fish cake; our usual being the fish cake - the cheaper and more common one. Recommend you try the prawn fish cake too, at least once. It's worth it.

After today, we returned a few times. And our usual would be the pineapple rice, clear tom yum soup (one of the best we came across), and prawn cake. The sea bass you see here is a disappointing one time order.

Pineapple Rice ($5.90++)

Homemade Prawn Cake ($11.90++, 4 pcs)

Basil Squid ($9.90++)

Seafood Super Bowl @ Sanook Kitchen West Mall

When you see something like this, don't you'll feel like ordering it? Saw this at Sanook Kitchen. There were only the 2 of us, but we were confident we could finish the ingredients - the seafood.

And we did! Leaving behind huge chuck of the instant noodles, we devoured these fresh succulent seafood! Disappointingly was the salty soup base; not something we could drink up. Thus requested for glasses of hot water to water it down.

Still, the seafood with fresh meat balls was memorable.
This hot stove was great for the wet weather.

Tamako Meal @ Casuarina Rd

Unagi ($16.80), Chawanmushi ($4)

It must have been more than a decade since we last visited Tamako Meal. The little homely restaurant has now expanded to cover 3 shop fronts. But there was no lunch hour crowd? Can food still be good?

They are.

Be it the quality of ingredients, food presentation and execution. If you compare them to popular Ichiban Boshi; Tamako matches up. There was even free flow of ingredients filled miso soup. With a strong hint of home-cooked that chain group of restaurant can never offer.

Assorted Sashimi - Tuna and Salmon (Medium, 11pcs, $18.80)

Chicken Katsu Don ($9.80)

Teriyaki Set with Garlic Fried Rice

建安, Jian An Cooked Food - A Fisherman Table

Steamed Red Grouper, Teochew Style ($26/ seasonal price)

Steamed Red Grouper, HK Style ($23/ seasonal price)

We found a gem for seafood at the new Marsiling Mall Hawker Centre. And we have been returning weekly for these.

Favorite being their fresh Teochew steamed fish and plump crayfishes. The steamed fish was almost impeccable; well-timed steaming preserved the tenderness of sweet meat. And its tasty sauces going so well on rice, was not overly salted as well.

Every other dishes are well-executed.
An affordable kitchen to entrust a good meal with your family.

Stall #01-23

Steamed Red Grouper, with Preserved Radish ($24/ seasonal price)

Butter Sotong ($10)

Chili LaLa ($8)

Chili Crayfish ($26/ seasonal price)

New Year at Crystal Jade Kitchen

Siew Mai with Mini Abalone (approx. $9.90++)

This CNY, we came back thrice for Crystal Jade new year menu.

The pics are the 2 dishes which are the must order. The third dish being their sautéed beef cubes; so good it gave you the satisfaction of a steak! Now if only they serve red wine here.

Braised Abalone with Brocolli (approx. $59++)
