Our first taste of this grape was at a mini Korean Fair outside the Cold Storage of Takashimaya basement.
It was then selling at $9+ for a small branch, so despite mom's immerse interest to buy, i dissuaded her.
Then further down in Cold Storage Mart itself, the Japanese Champagne Grapes of even smaller packing was going at $16+.
Thoughts of the firm chewy texture of the Korean version of Champagne grapes lingers. It was a taste to remember. Very different from those California grapes we grew up with.
So it's understandable when mum hurriedly make a trip down to the NTUC Supermarket specifically to buy the Korean Campbell Early Hwaseong grapes when she knows it's selling at S$5.50 only.
The grapes have an incredibly sweet taste, and are bursting with flavor. Visually appealing with their tightly clustered black fruits.
Even though it comes with seeds and have sour skins that you might wish to remove before consuming, i really don’t mind the trouble for a taste of its strong Champagne-like scent and sweet chewy bite.
And as according to the salesperson, the grapes are selling like hot cakes :)
