顺兴, Hot & Cold Desserts

When we first surveyed the newly upgraded Tanglin Halt Food Centre in June this year, this stall was earmarked for future visit because of its long long queue and considerably low pricing of $1 for most of their desserts.

To name just a few on their extensive $1 listing, they have Cheng Tng, Dao Suan, Red Bean Soup, Bobo Cha Cha, Ice Kachang, Chendol, Almond Longan Ice, Honeydew Sago Ice...

Ice Jelly Cocktail ($1)

Frankly, i was skeptical of the grade of dessert here, ingredients might most probably be reduced at such marked down?

But so glad i was proven wrong; the Ice Jelly we ordered was as palatable as what you would get from regular Ice dessert stalls, fine ice shaving topped with canned cocktail fruits and Nata de coco aplenty!

SONY Alpha 550!

Ric decided that we purchase the Sony A550 from Comex 2010 Singapore at Suntec as the set was offered at an incredible deal of $899 exclusively for the 4 day event.

We have got hooked to the magic of DSLR and can't see ourselves turning back to compact anymore. Even with overseas travel in mind, we have no qualm of lugging the beloved excess baggage. So going forward, a good shot can be invested.

Sad to say, my skill in photo composition is still lacking much behind; having a nice cam is an aid, source of comfort and encouragement.

Think we are stuck with Sony, and enjoying it ;)

Owl Pure Ground Coffee Bag..

Owl Brand - Pure Ground Coffee, 20 sachets ($3.25)

Friends and family does find it strange that a young female like me takes a liking to "old man's coffee bag"? And enjoying it much without cream or sugar at that..

Well, for one who was accustomed to coffee with milk all these time, Owl pure ground coffee bag of just roast and ground coffee powder, minus any sugar was a little hard to stomach initially. My stomach had even revolted over the strong coffee pureness!

Now, i craved for its distinct clear taste often.
A cup over my slow reading of the weekend morning papers was pleasurable...

阿一鲍鱼, 1 Mooncake

It's pretty amusing of Orchard Central to give out 1 number of Mooncake to any customer with $80 purchase at their Mall. Why? Because Mooncake like any Chinese festive items should not come in singular number that prompted inauspiciousness, or even disrespect to the elderly Chinese. It should always come in pair, 2 at least, especially as a giveaway or gift..

It a big taboo for an event organiser, i feel, to miss out on this aspect in a Chinese community.

Well, we choose to be unaffected by this allegory that we too observed, viewing it just as a food sampler. It was no doubt my first Mooncake this year.

And i quite surprised myself at my nonchalant to Mooncakes!? I used to love Mooncakes, very much. At least until last year's festival. Now i've changed? For the better? Cause the Mid-Autumn Festival each year easily raises the reading on my weighting machine by 2kg, haha...

Garlic Basil Hot Wok Prawns.

Sea Prawns, 海虾 (Market price: $12 per kg)

Finally done a decent enough cooking of the Hot Wok Prawns! So hot the wok transformed the prawn shells whitish; so hot i don't dare lift the wok cover that shielded me from the blistering content; so hot my hands burning from hovering over the opened wok. And yes, this should be the way.

Mum had been arranging for my cooking of the prawns, it seems she likes them. Every time she sees nice prawns on the market, she would buy and ask if i had like to cook them. Having failed in 2 previous attempts, i was unreceptive to the task.

Today, i did it and am glad.

The only difference of today's recipe to the Garlic Hot Wok Prawns done previously was the addition of Basil. I had stir fried Basil together with minced Garlic, infusing the aroma into the oil.

It was a good try. And i'll be looking forward to more recipe incorporating use of Basil leaves when my little garden Basil plant thrives ;)

Breeks Cafe's Lunch Set

"A Sweet Lunch Deal" was promised at Breeks Cafe as they rolled out their series of $9.90++ set lunch which includes choices from 5 selected Mains, a day soup and soft drink to counter the combativeness of the F&B scene in City Square Mall.

Breeks Soup of the Day (Normal Priced at $4.90++)

I was rather pleased with our serve of viscously creamy Chicken Soup of the Day; it even includes several chunks of tender chicken.

Fish and Chips (Normal Priced at $14.90++)

This may be the mediocre Fish Dory but it being a classic simply had its reason; we still enjoy it. Love Breek's waffle Fries and chilled Coleslaw.

Chicken Pattie Melted (Normal Priced at 14.90++)

This was a most interesting Chicken Patty that was stuffed with lots of stuffings we couldn't tell what; Nuts? Or Onions bits? But it was altogether enthralling.

Coated with smoky BBQ sauce and topped with a slice of cheddar cheese; perfectly match with soft mashed potatoes and fresh garden greens on the side. Gave you a plate of multiple flavors.

Vanilla Ice-cream cone ($1)

Breeks has Ice-cream cone for takeaway at $1. No standard purchase required and they come in Chocolate, Vanilla and Mixed-Berries flavors today. Took a fancy to their sweet Vanilla Ice-cream with little chewy bits and nice crunchy cone biscuit ;)
